These maps represent the general route that the caravans are going to follow on VCDL Lobby Day - Monday, January 18, 2021. Once a caravan leaves its starting location, it will not stop at the waypoints. Those waiting at the various waypoints can simply join the caravan as it passes.
The four main caravans start in the Staunton, Fairfax County, Hampton, and Emporia areas and will each be lead by a "decked-out" bus. Once these caravans leave their starting location, they will stay on the main highways and will not stop. So, the Staunton caravan, for example, will stay on I64 East and will not exit in Charlottesville, but there is a waypoint in Charlottesville where people can wait for the caravan to pass by and merge into it.
The sub-caravans start in Bristol, Winchester, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Lynchburg, Martinsville, Wattsville, Burgess, and Dahlgren areas. These sub-caravans will not be stopping either. However, if a sub-caravan arrives at the associated main-caravan location early, the sub-caravan can head to the main-caravan starting location. Otherwise, the sub-caravan can keep going on the route and hopefully catch up with the main-caravan.
For those in Central Virginia, you can join whatever caravan is convenient for you based on location and time. Or you might want to park downtown to watch the caravans passing through.
Waypoints in the maps below are in bold.
Details of the Richmond routes for the four main-caravans are covered under the corresponding main-caravan section. All caravans pass through Richmond on Broad Street Road (250) between I195 and I95.
Anyone wishing to visit downtown Richmond, feel free to park and walk around downtown. You can be armed and carry a sign, as VCDL is not doing an event in Richmond. Don't block the sidewalks and don't block traffic and you'll be fine. If you don't have a CHP from Virginia or some other state, don't have a magazine in your openly-carried gun that can hold more than 20 rounds. You can have larger magazines on your person, but don't put them in the gun. Also, whether you have a CHP or not, don't have a loaded long gun in your vehicle while driving. If posted, Richmond government buildings and parks are off-limits.
NOTE: The Burgess and Dahlgren sub-caravans now join the Fairfax County main-caravan in Ashland instead of Fredericksburg to save many miles. Times for the associated waypoints have been changed, too. See the updated maps, below.
UPDATE: Address for the Hampton start point has been moved slightly off the main property of the Hampton Coliseum to parking lot "D". The starting point is an empty dirt parking lot on the left as you drive toward the Coliseum on Convention Center Blvd. Map:
