1. Portsmouth City Council to discuss "gun violence" at work session on 2/9/21
The Portsmouth City Council work session is on Tuesday, February 9, starting at 4 pm. At this point there is going to be a discussion with the Portsmouth PD on "gang-related criminality and gun violence". This could be simply something informative on gangs, but it could also become a discussion on passing local gun-control.

We will be monitoring to see what is discussed and whether we need to start contacting City Council. If you plan on watching the meeting live and can report back what was discussed, that would be great!

Thanks to VCDL's Watch Team Leader for Portsmouth for catching this and reporting it.

2. REMINDERFairfax City Council to get input and vote on local gun-control on 2/9/91

Fairfax City is getting public input and voting on their proposed local gun-control ordinance on Tuesday, February 9. The meeting is virtual and starts at 7 pm.

As written, it has the maximum restrictions: prohibits guns in local government buildings, parks, recreation and community centers, and at permitted events or at events that should have been permitted. No exceptions for CHP holders.

However, when discussing this ordinance late last year, there seemed to be a possibility that parks could be exempted and a slim possibility some kind of concession for permit holders. Their plan was to introduce the most restrictive version and possibly modify it during the meeting on February 9.

Information on attending the virtual meeting and commenting on it is here (get your comments in by Monday)https://www.fairfaxva.gov/services/about-us/city-meetings

The proposed ordinance can be seen here: https://fairfax.granicus.com/MetaViewer.php?view_id=11&clip_id=2608&meta_id=86339

3. REMINDERWinchester City Council to get input and vote on local gun-control on 2/9/21

Winchester City Council is planning local gun-control, using the events of January 6 in DC as an excuse. They are getting public input and voting on the proposed ordinance on Tuesday, February 9, at 6 pm in a virtual meeting.

Winchester wants to do what eight other tyrannical localities have done: prohibit guns in local government buildings, parks, recreation and community centers, and at permitted events or at events that should have been permitted. No exceptions for CHP holders, either, which at least Newport News had the decency to do.

Information on how to attend the meeting virtually and/or send in comments are here (get your comments in by Monday)https://www.winchesterva.gov/city-event/city-council-regular-meeting-and-work-session-20

4. ACTION ITEMLoudoun County Board of Supervisors to get input and vote on local gun-control on 2/10/21On Wednesday, February 10, at 6 pm the Loudoun Board of Supervisors is going to get public input and vote on an ordinance that would prohibit carry in local government buildings, parks, and community and recreation centers.

A proposed amendment to the ordinance would allow CHP holders to carry in parks, as long as they carry concealed and the gun is not a centerfire rifle or pistol that has a magazine that will hold more than 20 rounds, or has a threaded barrel or a folding stock, or is a shotgun that will hold more than seven rounds of the longest ammunition for which it is chambered. Uh, you can't carry a concealed rifle or shotgun in Virginia, so that part of the ordinance is moot if you are required to carry concealed with a CHP.

Here is the original proposed ordinance. Here is the ordinance with the proposed park exemption for CHP holders.
