1. VCDL got an extension on 18-20 year olds purchasing handguns being exempt from UBCs until December 15, 2021!

Success!

Earlier this month, VCDL and GOA went to court to extend the current stay on the requirement that 18 to 20 year olds are subject to Virginia's Universal Background Check law when purchasing handguns. The current stay was set to expire in February.

The judge granted the VCDL/GOA motion and the stay was extended until December 15, 2021.

2. Christiansburg Town Council says a firm "NO" to local gun-control!After watching Blacksburg pass local gun-control, Christiansburg Town Councilman Steve Huppert thought that Christiansburg could use a little tyranny, too. So he wrote a Letter to the Editor and then this article was published in the Roanoke Times:

https://roanoke.com/news/local/christiansburg-councilman-favors-town-adopting-gun-control-measure-akin-to-blacksburg/article_54dc66e8-67c1-11eb-8354-332f91708142.html

Notice in the article how Huppert says, “You just want to take small bites.” There is no satisfying gun-controllers. They won't stop until our right to keep and bear arms is but a distant memory and America's beacon on the hill has gone dark.

However, VCDL EM John Wilburn was having none of it. He and another gun-rights supporter headed to the next Town Council meeting to head that puppy off at the pass. John sent me this report:

At the end of all other business, Councilman Huppert proposed a presentation on gun control at a March council meeting. The Mayor asked each of the other five council members if they would be interested in such a presentation and all five were an unambiguous NO. The Mayor then commented that he was not interested in gun control citing that the “95%” of gun owners who aren’t the problem might be part of the solution and that the town cannot shoulder the costs of screening and security like the courthouse.

Then, Councilman Showalter brought up that Huppert raises this issue several times per year and no one is interested and asked Huppert to “drop it.” Huppert agreed.

So for the time being, gun control is a dead issue in Christiansburg.

What a breath of fresh air compared to the Blacksburg Town Council!

Here is the followup story in the Roanoke Times:

4. Easy to remember: VCDL to have monthly membership meetings online on third ThursdaySince we no longer have to schedule meetings at the Mason District Government Center a year in advance (nor will we be holding meetings there), we have decided to have an online membership meeting every 3rd Thursday of each month, starting this month. The meetings will begin at 8 pm. Currently they can be watched on VCDL's Youtube channel (http://tiny.cc/VCDLyoutube). We are planning on having them available on more platforms in the future.

The next meeting is going to be on February 18.

5. A look at some federal gun bills
"Crazy Sheila" Jackson Lee, who says and does the stupidest things, has put in a bill, H.R. 127, that is the gun-control lobby's dream. It has gun and ammo registration and licensing, a psychological evaluation requirement, horrendously-stiff penalties for possession of a gun or ammunition without a license, a ban on .50 caliber ammo, a requirement to notify the U.S. Attorney General if you loan or give a gun to someone else, a complete ban on magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, and much more. The bill is so bad that it has ZERO co-sponsors! Not even other Democrats want to come within 500 feet of that bill.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio has put in a bill to suspend the gun rights of anyone who has been merely "investigated" for Domestic Terrorism. With friends like Rubio...

 https://www.unz.com/estriker/senator-marco-rubio-introduces-bill-to-suspend-gun-rights-of-anyone-who-has-ever-been-investigated-for-domestic-terrorism/

This bill would make it illegal to purchase a gun on layaway, amongst many other things, under the guise of fighting "gun trafficking":

6. NRA sues Fairfax County over park ban. VCDL still eyeing options
The NRA is suing Fairfax County over their ban on possession of firearms in parks and in areas adjacent to a permitted event, or an event that should have been permitted. Fairfax County is not the only jurisdiction that has implemented this type of unreasonable local gun-control ordinance. VCDL continues to review the other localities for possible legal action. Stay tuned.

7. Virginia Beach Rifle & Pistol Club donates $1,000 to VCDL!VCDL thanks the Virginia Beach Rifle & Pistol Club for a generous $1,000 donation! In the accompanying letter, Steven Gordon, the Club's treasurer, wrote, "On behalf of the Virginia Beach Rifle & Pistol Club, I am pleased to enclose a $1,000 donation. The Board of Directors extends our thanks for everything the VCDL does for Virginia gun owners."

8. Correction on name of Fairfax City Councilman
I had a typo in the name of the freedom-minded Fairfax City Councilman who stood up for gun owners recently: Sang Yi is the correct spelling.

9. Anti-gun forces gather for assault on 2Ahttps://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/rick-moran/2021/02/06/anti-gun-forces-gathering-for-assault-on-second-amendment-n1423665

10. U.S. Supreme Court to decide if police can enter home without warrant to seize gunsWe'll be keeping an eye on this one.

11. "Wolf in sheep's clothing" - gun control opinion piece by a "gun owner"https://www.virginiamercury.com/2021/02/10/gun-laws-are-common-sense/

"John Crimmins of Chesapeake is a Second Amendment supporter and a retired Chesapeake police officer." Second Amendment supporter? I don't believe it. Although, perhaps Crimmins is simply following in the footsteps of gun-grabber Senator Chuck Schumer from New York, who is a gun owner, and claims to be a "Second Amendment supporter," too.

From the opinion piece we are to believe that Crimmins is a Second Amendment supporter, yet he doesn't know the difference between gun safety and gun control. That's like a car owner not knowing the difference between looking both ways before entering an intersection and having to pay an annual tax on his vehicle to be able to drive it on public roads.

"These extremists are fixated on using a gun to protect themselves but rarely spare a thought for the individuals who may be killed, injured, or threatened with these guns."

I'll bet Crimmins rarely spares a thought as to who may be killed or injured by him owning and driving a vehicle.

The piece is loaded with gun-control lingo that could just as easily have been written by Demanding Mom Shannon Watts. Each paragraph has a gem that can be easily torn apart, but I'm not going to sped the time doing so. Suffice it to say that I'm shocked that a police officer who has dealt with criminals face-to-face could have gotten everything so wrong.

14. Factually challenged Letter to the Editor about "white racists" being in downtown Richmond on January 18

A letter to the Editor full of information that isn't so. And by an attorney nonetheless. My comments on this one are in blue:

http://richmondfreepress.com/news/2021/jan/21/gun-prohibition-needs-be-applied/

Once again, citizens of the city of Richmond avoided Downtown on the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday as a group of white supremacists smelled their musk and paraded in soldier costumes, flaunting assault weapons, each having a magazine of 30 to 40 bullets. [PVC: How exactly does Mr. Baugh know the number of rounds of ammunition (not "bullets") that are in those magazines? If Mr. Baugh doesn't know the difference between "rounds" and "bullets," he's unlikely to know much about magazines.]

Clearly, these men meant to instill some fear and trepidation in the citizens of our city like the night riders of the Ku Klux Klan — “Keep them scared.” There is a very thinly veiled threat. [PVC: So, if this was about keeping people "scared," where was the associated violence?]

When will this city enforce the laws of the Commonwealth against these tactics? Is this tactic of not applying the laws of the Commonwealth against these men by design of the mayor or the chief of police?

True, Mayor Levar M. Stoney is not a lawyer and might not be familiar with the Virginia’s criminal statutes. But I would assume his Police Chief Gerald Smith, if asked the question “Is this against the law?” would be intelligently advised.

Pursuant to Section 18.2-287.4 of the Virginia Code, “Carry- ing loaded firearms in public areas prohibited; penalties,” it is illegal to carry a loaded weapon with “a magazine that will hold more than 20 rounds ... or equipped with a folding stock ... on any public street, road, alley, sidewalk, public right-of-way or in any public park or any other place of whatever nature that is open to the public.” [PVC: Mr. Baugh says he is a lawyer, yet he doesn't correctly quote the law. There is a major exception to 18.2-287.4 - CHP holders are exempt. The law also does not apply to firearms chambered in a rimfire caliber. Since there are over 700,000 CHP holders in Virginia alone (20 million nationally), seeing someone openly carrying a firearm in Richmond does not give the police probable cause to stop the person merely because they are carrying a firearm.]

This law applies to 13 specified cities and counties, including Richmond.

There is a lot of recent talk of equal treatment in the criminal justice system in the United States and Virginia.

Mayor Stoney, if you did not know of Va. Code Section 18.2- 287.4, you are getting bad advice, are being intentionally tricked or Chief Smith missed that day at the police academy. One of you, Mr. Mayor or Chief Smith, really should change jobs. [PVC: Mr. Baugh should be careful of throwing stones when it comes to not understanding 18.2-287.4, as well as the lack of probably cause for the police to stop someone merely for the possession of a firearm.]

When the white supremacists come to our city, my tax dollars demand the laws that apply to me also apply to them. [PVC: Videos I saw from that day showed everyone, black, white, and otherwise, all getting along just fine.]

Just maybe arresting a few of them and forfeiting their big masculine props could dissuade them. Just maybe.
