Participation in this segment is limited to law students. Interns will research case law related to the recent US Supreme Court Decision in the New York Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen case. Participation will be predominantly virtual, and run in ten week segments. This two-year program offers a total immersion experience in the Virginia legislative process. Year one begins with participants learning about drafting legislation, analyzing bills and current law, lobbying senators and delegates, and testifying in committee meetings. Year two the interns will work in the offices of Virginia senators and delegates. The program coincides with the Virginia legislative session and requires participants to be within commuting distance of Richmond and have their own transportation. This program is designed to give participants an in depth understanding of the foundation of our 2nd Amendment. Not just the history, but also how it relates to today's world. This knowledge will then be utilized to reach voters and encourage them to prioritize their right to keep and bear arms when they go to the polls. We know that this is the one right that protects all others. Conveying that concept to others is a skill that we must all learn, and this program strives to teach it. Congratulations to the winners of the first ever VCDL Academy Mega Raffle! Our sincere thanks to all those who purchased tickets. On November 16, 2023 we gave away five fabulous firearms (say THAT five times fast!) in an effort to raise much needed funds for this important mission. The prizes consisted of a Zastava M93 Black Arrow Long Range Rifle and four other guns. Contributors included Henry Rifle, who donated a .22 Golden Boy, and Member S. Heath, who donated an AR pistol. This event served a dual purpose; it was an educational opportunity for the public as well as a fundraiser for the VCDL Academy. Candidates for the Virginia Senate 12th District answered tough questions on 2nd Amendment related issues. All candidates in the District 12 Primary were invited to participate. On March 24, 2023, the VCDL Academy hosted a Legislative Round Table. Voters heard from Delegates Tara Durant, Nick Freitas and Phil Scott, Senator Bryce Reeves, and VCDL President Philip Van Cleave.
