VCDL Academy Legislative Internship |
Practical Politics ProgramLegislative InternshipThe VCDL Academy Legislative Internship program is the perfect opportunity for political science students to totally immerse themselves in the legislative process. In this two-year program, interns will work alongside Virginia's premier 2nd Amendment advocacy group at the General Assembly Building in Richmond. See below for participation requirements. This is a hands-on program. You will learn how to analyze bills and review current law. You will testify in committee meetings and accompany VCDL President, Philip Van Cleave, as we lobby senators and delegates. The schedule is flexible and is dictated by committee meetings, bill assignments, and the schedules of the legislators. The average time requirement is 15 hours per week, but will be more intensive at the beginning of the session and potentially after crossover day. Those who participate in the second year program will be afforded the opportunity to work in the office of a senator or delegate. They will be able to see the legislative process from the inside. These opportunities are rare and we're grateful the legislators who have offered to participate. Another part of the curriculum is a crash course on the history of the 2nd Amendment and how it is relevant in today's society. This is designed to give the interns a working knowledge they can use to advocate for better legislation. There is potential for course credits, but please confirm with your professors. We will be happy to answer any questions that you or your professors may have. How To ApplyUse the link below to send an email. Please include your resume, transcripts and a cover letter.
